The
Coaches'
Library |
| |
This is a recommended list of books for coaches, parents and players who who want to learn
more about the games and increase their skills. All sports are included. Many of these are
available at Wheeler Basin Library or can be ordered on-line at Barnes
and Noble or Amazon.com. Please let me know if there are any books that you
would recommend. Please take into consideration the age and maturity of the players you
are coaching. For players under the age of nine or ten it is much easier to teach skills
in the form of games rather than drills. Where prices are listed they are usually for the
paperback edition. Because of the increasing use of instructional videos I am
including videos at the bottom of each sport category.
I have read most if not all of these
books and the opinions expressed are mine only. (Ken Gamble).
If you are looking for books for your
younger children to read and you are tired of seeing them with Goosebumps books try any of
the sports books by
Matt Christopher. |

by Gladys C. Meyer - A complete guide for players and coaches to throwing, catching,
fielding, pitching, defense, batting, base running, offense, training & conditioning,
injuries, equipment, & organizing to play. (796.357 MEY at Wheeler Basin Library) -
This book is dated 1982 and seems to be complete but it is missing some of the newer
techniques brought on by the increase in popularity of Girls Softball.

baseball, soccer, basketball and football. It is a good, inexpensive primer that covers
all aspects of the game. The softback book retails for $12.95. (796.357 PAG at Wheeler
